Back to school for Sutcliffe Construction with a £1 million project at Ilkley’s Westville House

Leading North Yorkshire-based construction company Sutcliffe Construction has been appointed by independent Ilkley prep school to build a £1 million development set for completion in September. This is the company’s second project for Westville House School; having built the sports hall in 2002.

James Sutcliffe, managing director, Sutcliffe Construction, said: “Westville House School is a site Sutcliffe Construction knows well and this is an advantage as the new development is a challenge. Westville House is a busy school and health and safety is paramount. However, our knowledge of the site, combined with our expertise in complex phased construction projects, means we can ‘build smart’ and deliver the quality that Westville expects with minimum disruption to pupils, parents and staff.”

This project is the first phase of a long-term development plan and involves the creation of a new early years unit for children of nursery and reception age and a new school hub, which will link the new unit with the existing building, along with a new library and media suite, an upgraded ICT and DT facility and extensive new playground facilities.

Westville’s chairman of governors, Neil Brown, said: “It is very exciting to be working with Sutcliffe Construction once again. They clearly understand the needs of a build project like ours and are committed to providing quality under a challenging timescale. This is a hugely important project in the development of this outstanding school, and we look forward with confidence to providing the very best facilities in early years education in the area.”

James Sutcliffe added: “This is an exciting project working with one of the area’s most prestigious schools. As a construction company, it’s always great to be invited back to a site you are familiar with to develop it further. These are the kind of long-term relationships with customers that Sutcliffe prefers because we can add extra value.”
